Pat Cummins Set to Play a Significant Contribution in Iconic Rivalry

Australian cricket captain

The Australian skipper has claimed over 300 dismissals in 71 appearances with an average of 22.10.

The Australian selection chief George Bailey has stated that skipper Cummins will have a crucial role in the upcoming England-Australia contest.

Speculation had been growing that Cummins might sit out due to a persistent back stress problem that was still troubling him.

Initial reports from team management suggested no definitive call had been made regarding his involvement, with the Test matches kicking off on the 21st of November in Western Australia.

Bailey expressed that his recovery is on track and was "optimistic" about his chances of taking part.

"We know that the clock is ticking and there are permutations around that, aside from the physical problem, but additional elements," Bailey remarked.

"We're encouraged. There's strong faith that he will feature a significant role. Ideally from the opening match. Should that not happen, then we'll pick it up."

Injury History

The captain missed the white-ball matches against India and New Zealand recently after scans revealed a stress reaction in his back.

There is a track record of recurring issues, with recurrences in several earlier campaigns forcing him out of three Australian summers in four years.

The bowler mentioned he would be ""aggressive" and "take risks" in his comeback strategy to secure his spot for the Ashes.

He mentioned that he did not know if he had started his bowling workouts as part of his rehabilitation but acknowledged it was "becoming urgent" for him to be fit for the initial match.

Alternative Arrangements

If he's unavailable, former captain Steve Smith will lead the side.

All-rounder Cameron Green was excluded lately from the ODI lineup for their ODI contests against the Asian giants as a safety move because of an abdominal issue.

Bailey described it as a "minor" injury and stated that Green will play in the domestic first-class competition, so will be "in a good place to deliver overs."

"Extensive planning has gone into creating the schedule for him to take part for the initial game as an all-rounder," the selector detailed.

"Originally, he'd only feature in the first two ODIs anyway. His aggressive style the cricket bat in white-ball cricket, even if it just sets him back for another day, we just made the decision to approach this more conservatively."
